Villa Comunale Sorrento
The first thing we can do once we arrive in Sorrento is to go to the Villa Comunale to enjoy a beautiful view of the Amalfi Coast, Vesuvius, and the baths of Sorrento. The Villa Comunale is definitely one of our favorite places in Sorrento.
The Villa Comunale is a public garden with a beautiful balcony on the sea. It is located near the center, and for this reason, it is a meeting point where you can have an aperitif or enjoy this unique view.

The Villa Comunale of Sorrento is the best place where you can enjoy the sunset and see Sorrento’s beach from above.
The baths of Queen Giovanna
The baths of Queen Giovanna is a very special place where you can enjoy the sea. They are easily accessible by bus. I do not recommend you to get there on foot because although they are not very far from Sorrento, it is a long walk to do on foot and the road in some places does not have a pedestrian area.
If you go in August you should arrive very early because it is not very big and it gets easily crowded.

The Mills Vallum
The Mills Vallum is visible from top to bottom from a bridge placed right above this area. Vallone di Mulini is close to the center and therefore easily accessible.






The beautiful Sunset
Watching the sunset maybe during a good dinner is really impressive in Sorrento. A good idea is to go to one of the restaurants on the Marina Grande to observe it. Watch the following video to admire the sunset over the sea.

One of these restaurants is the Vittoria Terrace restaurant that is on the top of the Continental hotel.
There is nothing better than going up to the terrace before the sun goes down for an aperitif and watching the change on the horizon. Moreover, in front of us, we have the Vesuvius that characterizes the Sorrento view.
In fact, the volcano Vesuvius is clearly visible from Sorrento but not from other Amalfi Coast towns such as Positano and Amalfi.

Sorrento Italy beaches
The main 3 beaches in Sorrento are the following:

The Sorrento public beach and the beach establishments
The Sorento public beach is close to the center and Marina Piccola. This beach is quite small but many people can come here thanks to the beach establishments that are next to the beach.

These bathing establishments use docks that extend towards the sea. Watch the following video in order to understand better.
Sorrento is characterized by many things but surely the Sorrento beach establishments are one of the things you remember about Sorrento. The Sorrento baths are definitely a nice place to go sunbathing and swimming but they are also very beautiful seen from above.
In the following video, we see the beach of Sorrento, and we have an overview of the Lidos of Sorrento taken from above: among the most famous Leonelli’s beach and the Bagni Salvatore. In the view from below, we have Leonelli’s beach in front of us, while Bagni Salvatore is clearly visible in the shot from above and is located on the opposite side of Leonelli’s beach.

The view of the shores and the sunset was taken from the Villa Comunale in Sorrento. In fact, the municipal villa is an excellent place to meet before dinner to observe the magnificent panorama of the Amalfi Coast.

An important note regarding the free beach of San Francesco is that a sign indicates that access is allowed only to residents of the Municipality of Sorrento.

If you are in Sorrento I think you’d like to visit other Amalfi Coast towns. From Sorrento, you can easily get to Capri and Positano by boat.
You can take a boat to Capri or Positano in Marina Piccola which is on the opposite side of Marina Grande.
From Marina Piccola you can see more than the boats and the seagulls: you can also see the Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria. This hotel is part of the Sorrento skyline and you can easily notice it because it’s built on rock and it’s quite colorful. It certainly doesn’t go unnoticed.

You are now ready for a new adventure. Let’s go to Positano by boat. While sailing we have the pleasure of enjoying the most hidden beauties of the Amalfi Coast.
During our trip, we pass in front of the western Amalfi Coast point: Punta Campanella. Punta Campanella is right in front of Capri island and while we pass here we have Punta Campanella on one side and Capri Island on the other side.

Punta Campanella
If you take the boat and head towards the Amalfi Coast you have the pleasure of enjoying the beauties of the Sorrento coast.
In particular, you pass in front of the most extreme point of the coast, the westernmost point: Punta Campanella. Punta Campanella is located right in front of the island of Capri and as you pass in front of it you have Punta Campanella on one side and the island of Capri on the other. You can also admire Punta Campanella from Monte Solaro in Capri. On clear days the spectacle is incredible!
Marina Grande Sorento: dinner and sunset
After enjoying the beautiful view at the Villa Comunale and having the aperitif it’s now the time of having dinner. For our first dinner, we chose a very cute area of Sorento: Marina Grande.
Marina Grande Sorento is a very distinct and popular area of Sorrento, especially in summer. Here we find not only the beach but also excellent restaurants by the sea. Dining in one of these restaurants is a great idea, especially for watching the sunset.
We chose the Il Delfino restaurant for our dinner in Sorrento to have good food and an amazing view of the sunset on the sea. We have dinner and admire the sunset over the sea: very romantic! You can see the sunset from a table of this restaurant in the following short video.
Sorrento Italy in winter
Sorrento is a good place to stay also in winter. Most of the shops are opened also in winter and from Sorrento, you can do a lot o day trips. Here are a few examples.
- Capri by boat you can get here in Sorrento at Marina Grande.
- Naples by train. From the Sorrento train station.
- Pompeii by train. From the Sorrento train station.
- Positano by bus. In front of the Sorrento train station, you can get the bus for all the Amalfi Coast.
- Amalfi by bus. In front of the Sorrento train station, you can get the bus for all the Amalfi Coast.
- Herculaneum by train. From the Sorrento train station.
- Praiano and Furore by bus. In front of the Sorrento train station, you can get the bus for all the Amalfi Coast.
