Positano Italy: 10 unforgettable Things to do in Positano & Positano beach

Positano Italy

Positano Italy – Things to do in Positano – Positano beach. As already written in the post “Amalfi Coast Towns” Positano is one of the best towns on the Amalfi Coast. Its beauty enchants many people.

Positano Italy

As you can see below, Positano is developed on different levels, and starting from the top going down to the pedestrian center you have to follow a road on the coast. On this road you can find many restaurants with a wide view of the coast and the sea. It’s unique!

You’ll see many shops in the pedestrian area where you can find many clothes in a perfect Positano’s style.

As a result, maybe Positano is the best town to stay in especially in the summertime but not in the low season. Positano is the town most affected by the touristic seasons!

Precious Advises

For our own eperience we want to give you the following precious advices.

  • In August and the more busy seasons prefer the boat to the bus when you have to move. When there are many people, the bus times aren’t trustworthy and if the bus is full it doesn’t stop and it leaves you at the bus stop :(. The boat times are instead always right.
  • Do not pack too many things because Positano is full of stairs and it isn’t easy to arrive at your hotel with big and heavy bags. If you don’t want to renounce to some of your stuff use the porterage service. The porterage service brings your bags from the tourist port of Positano to your hotel. In this way, you’ll not have a heart attack 😉 if you’re not trained.
  • Avoid the 2 central weeks of August if you can. Too hot and too crowded.

One of the best things to do in Positano is to relax on the Positano beach and enjoy the view. Positano beach is very nice and it’s also big compared to other beaches on the Amalfi Coast. Positano beach

You can see Positano beach in many postcards and many beautiful pictures around the web. The truth is that Positano beach is lovely and unique for its scenario.

There is also another beach you can easily reach on foot: Fornillo Beach.

Fornillo Beach is not far from the Grande beach of Positano. You can easily get to Fornillo beach on foot, thanks to the paved path that takes you directly from Spiaggia Grande to Fornillo beach.

This trail is also very nice to walk as it counts the sea and is scenic. The Fornillo beach remains more private and quiet than the Spiaggia Grande in Positano, especially during the high tourist season.

Let’s see the main cities of the Amalfi Coast, their characteristics and when you can go.

Italian Amalfi Coast Towns

Sorrento

Sorrento has a big city center with many shops of any kind. It’s more like a city than a town and despite it’s a perfect place for shopping and where to spend the evening, this can make you lose the Amalfi Coast atmosphere.

Anyway, it has a very nice balcony on the sea where you can have your coffee or drink with a beautiful view. Then from Sorrento, you can see something you can’t see from Positano or Amalfi: the volcano Vesuvius.

In the following video, you can see this beautiful view from this balcony at sunset time. Watch the video and subscribe to our YouTube Channel if you aren’t already subscribed! Subscribe here!

In the summertime, I would prefer to stay in a more Amalfitan style town than in Sorrento. In low season, however, it’s the best place to be in.

If you are In Sorrento in summer for many reasons you can go to Marina Grande for a day on the beach. As I’ve already said it’s not the best beach on the Amalfi Coast but it’s cute.

In Marina Grande, there are many restaurants. Dinner in one of those restaurants, especially those in the see it’s a beautiful experience. You can enjoy the sunset on the sea.

We can now move to the next Amalfi Coast Town: Positano. So let’s take the boat for Positano.

Positano

We’re now arriving one of the best village town in Amalfi Coast: Positano.

Many people are enchanted by its beauty.

Just turning our gaze, we also see the mother island. Isola Madre, already owned by the Borromeo family since about 1500, is now worth a visit, especially for its garden. Today, the one on Isola Madre is a unique botanical garden for rare plant essences worldwide that find an excellent home here on Lake Maggiore thanks to the mild and favorable temperatures. Behind the Isola Madre, along the coast, we can see Verbania and, more precisely, Pallanza and Suna’s areas.

  6. Lago di Camabbio
  7. Lago Biandronno

We have now reached the end of this walk together. From here, it is, however, possible to continue on foot. In fact, after a stretch of sidewalk that runs along the road, you can get to another walk that runs along the lakefront and ends at the square, where it is possible to take the cable car to the Mottarone. This place is one of the most beautiful places to take a picture or take a selfie due to Isola Bella and Pescatori’s proximity.

  • Marina Piccola
  • The sunset

Villa Comunale Sorrento

The first thing we can do once we arrive in Sorrento is to go to the Villa Comunale to enjoy a beautiful view of the Amalfi Coast, Vesuvius and the baths of Sorrento. The Villa Comunale is definitely one of our favorite places in Sorrento.

The Villa Comunale are public gardens with a beautiful balcony on the sea. It is located near the center, and for this reason, it is a meeting point where you can have an aperitif or enjoy this unique view.

The Villa Comunale of Sorrento is the best place where you can enjoy the sunset and see Sorrento’s beach from above.

Bagni Regina Giovanna

The baths of Queen Giovanna is a very special place where you can enjoy the sea. They are easily accessible by bus. I do not recommend you to get there on foot because although they are not very far from Sorrento, it is a long walk to do on foot and the road in some places does not have a pedestrian area.

If you go in August you should arrive very early because it is not very big and it gets easily crowded.

The beautiful Sunset

Watching the sunset maybe during a good dinner is really impressive in Sorrento. The good idea is to go to one of the restaurants on the Marina Grande to observe it. Watch the following video to admire the sunset over the sea.

Another good idea is to have dinner in one of Sorrento’s magnificent restaurants with a panoramic terrace.

One of these restaurants is the Vittoria Terrace restaurant that is on the top of the Continental hotel.

There is nothing better than going up to the terrace before the sun goes down for an aperitif and watching the change on the horizon. Moreover, in front of us, we have the Vesuvius that characterizes the Sorrento view.

In fact, the volcano Vesuvius is clearly visible from Sorrento but not from other Amalfi Coast towns such as Positano and Amalfi.

The Sorento public beach and the beach establishments

The Sorento public beach is close to the center and Marina Piccola. This beach is quite small but many people can come here thanks to the beach establishments that are next to the beach.

Marina Piccola Sorrento

If you are in Sorrento I think you’d like to visit other Amalfi Coast towns. From Sorrento, you can easily get to Capri and Positano by boat.

You can take a boat for Capri or Positano in Marina Piccola that is on the opposite side of Marina Grande.

From Marina Piccola you can see more than the boats and the seagulls: you can also see the Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria. This hotel is part of the Sorrento skyline and you can easily notice it because it’s built on the rock and it’s quite colorful. It certainly doesn’t go unnoticed.

Watch the following video so you’ll understand better what I mean.

You are now ready for a new adventure. Let’s go to Positano by boat. While sailing we have the pleasure of enjoying the most hidden beauties of the Amalfi Coast.

During our trip, we pass in front of the western Amalfi Coast point: Punta Campanella. Punta Campanella is right in front of Capri island and while we pass here we have Punta Campanella on one side and Capri Island on the other side.

For the moment, however, let’s see these beautiful cliffs of the Amalfi Coast. Watch the following video!
